About this package

Iron deficiency is common, but anaemia in someone who is also unwell may not be that simple. Here iron studies and the blood count are joined by CRP and ESR, which show whether inflammation is hiding iron away, a smear for the look of the cells, and a reticulocyte count for the marrow's response. The pattern across the six results often separates true iron deficiency from anaemia of chronic disease or a mixed picture. That separation matters, because iron tablets help one and not the other, and your doctor can direct treatment accordingly.

An iron panel that also checks for inflammation and shows the cells on a smear, for anaemia that is not a simple lack of iron.

What does this package cover?

The 6 tests are grouped into 3 health areas:

Blood count & inflammation 3 tests

Red cells, white cells and platelets, blood group, and general inflammation markers.

  • Complete Blood Count (CBC)

RBC count, haemoglobin, haematocrit, WBC count with differential (neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophils, basophils), platelet count, and red-cell indices (MCV, MCH, MCHC).

  • CRP (C-Reactive Protein)

The level of C-reactive protein circulating in the blood, which rises within hours of an inflammatory trigger.

  • ESR (Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate)

The rate at which red blood cells settle in a vertical tube over 60 minutes.

Iron & anaemia 2 tests

Iron stores and red-cell production - the commonest causes of anaemia and tiredness.

  • Iron Studies

Serum iron, TIBC, UIBC (unsaturated iron-binding capacity), transferrin saturation percentage, and ferritin (the body’s iron-storage protein).

  • Reticulocyte Count

The percentage or absolute count of reticulocytes - red blood cells that are less than a few days old.

Other tests 1 test

Additional tests included in this package.

  • Peripheral blood smear (PBS)

Peripheral blood smear (PBS) is a blood test. Peripheral blood smear (PBS) is used in the work-up of anaemia to understand blood-cell production and iron status.

6 tests included (34 parameters)

Why consider this package?

  • 6 laboratory investigations in one booking
  • Looks at 3 health areas together, not in isolation
  • All samples collected in a single home visit
  • Costs ₹445 less than booking the tests separately
  • Useful for preventive screening, or when your doctor wants these tests together
  • Pathologist-reviewed reports shared online

Who is this package for?

Designed for

Men & women

Age group

All ages

Purpose

Health screening

People with anaemia who also have ongoing infections, joint problems, long-standing illness or poor response to iron tablets.

How often should you get it done?

Once for diagnosis, then repeat selected tests after treatment as advised.

Not everyone needs every test. Whether this package suits you depends on your age, symptoms, family history and any ongoing treatment - your doctor can advise.

What can you learn from this package?

The package can provide information about:

  • Blood count & inflammation - Complete Blood Count (CBC), CRP (C-Reactive Protein) and ESR (Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate)
  • Iron & anaemia - Iron Studies and Reticulocyte Count
  • Other tests - Peripheral blood smear (PBS)

A package gives individual results for each test - it does not diagnose disease by itself.

How to prepare

  • Fast for 8 to 10 hours before the sample - plain water is allowed. An early-morning slot makes this easier.
  • Drink water as usual, and avoid alcohol and strenuous exercise for 24 hours before.
  • Take your regular medicines unless your doctor advises otherwise, and tell the phlebotomist what you take.
  • Wear a loose-sleeved top so the blood sample can be collected easily.

Understanding your package report

Your report lists the result of each test separately, with its own unit and reference range. Values outside the range are highlighted.

There is no single overall "health score" - each result is read on its own and then together with the others. One out-of-range value is not a diagnosis, and a normal report does not guarantee you are completely healthy.

Share the report with your doctor, who will interpret it with your symptoms and history. Call us if you need help reading it.

Frequently asked questions

Why can iron be low while inflammation is high?

During inflammation the body deliberately stores iron out of reach, a natural defence against infection. The result is low blood iron even if total stores are fine, which is why CRP and ESR are tested with it.

Does it require fasting?

Yes, an eight to ten hour fast with water allowed, because serum iron rises after meals.

What happens if the smear looks unusual?

The pathologist's comments in the report may suggest a cause, such as iron lack or thalassaemia trait, and your doctor may then advise a more specific test.
